ROOT DOWN DENVER
This is a great example of creative client collaboration. The reclaimed movement is in full swing. I have been pushing this concept for several years, and have had my eye on a particular building in the hood to carry it out. This visionary New York restaurateur, with a sense of simple cool, presented a great opportunity to collaborate and help bring his ideas to life. A historic 1960’s garage was the base element for an immediately thriving neighborhood scene. Additional space was constructed to accommodate the dining room and kitchen.
Reclaimed elements including lighting, a bowling alley bar top, an old gym floor, and a fleet of vintage Saarinen chairs carried out the mid century modern theme. Collections of rotary phones, scales, and TV rabbit ears accent the space. (shike) took part in the contracting to help with timing and budget, including fabrication of the bar back, the 20′ wall of can lids, and other aspects to evolve the “design/ build” creation to a fruitful and inspiring environment. The project won the 2009 Mayor’s Award for Reclaimed Splendor.
