THE RIO GRANDE FORT COLLINS

Our approach to the more rural location was one of reclaimed materials and artifacts. This 30 year old space survived a kitchen fire, with smoke and water damage throughout the 2 story building. The client was open to a more timeless design for this space. The flow between the rooms needed an update, as well as the overall aesthetic, which was a mixed array of artifacts added over 30 years. Some of these were re-purposed as iconic elements from the previous design, including New Orleans street lamps, and reclaimed 15th street viaduct hand forged railings that were used throughout many of the brand’s locations in Colorado. These were converted into overhead features at the entry, bar and dining areas.

These large scale features were accented with large timbers reclaimed from railroad surplus, creating the bar back shelves and solid surrounds in each dining room. Updating the entire space to white walls with black wall paneling, and white oak floors opened the space and helped the light shine through. Material and pattern accents from the new Denver design pulled it all together with a well rounded finishing touch.
